Furthering RMEF's Mission, One Bottle of Wine at a Time

Kim and Blain Roberts are a passionate couple.  They're passionate about their coastal community in Washington.  They're passionate about the sea.  They're passionate about making wine. And they strongly believe in making a difference for causes in which they believe--like the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.

Acting on the insistence of an agricultural agent, the Roberts purchased land in February 2007.  They opened the Westport Winery 13 months later.  Their son, Dana, is the winemaker and daughter, Carrie, manages the wine tasting room.  As a way to bolster their sense of community, the family chose a local charity for each of their 33 wine varieties.

One of those wines goes by the name of Elk River Riesling.  It is described as "Refreshing honey and spring blossoms complimented by green apple and pear with a mineral finish."  And the label contains this message:  "Over the years whenever it was time to start fishing, I knew I'd arrived when I crossed the Elk River Bridge.  It was a moment so sweet, so poignant, that I wanted to savor it forever.  I knew Westport was my home, not just on a physical sense, but to my very core.  I hope this refreshing wine makes you feel the same way.  A portion of the proceeds from the sale of this wine benefits the Twin Harbors Chapter of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation."

Westport Winery owners, Kim & Blain Roberts, with RMEF Twin Harbors Chapter Volunteer Dan Guy, are pictured receiving their Royal Habitat Partner Plaque, presented at a recent chapter dinner at the winery.

That's right, each purchase of Elk River Riesling wine supports RMEF.  To date, that adds up to more than $5,000.  The Roberts do not serve on the Twin Harbors Chapter, nor do they regularly attend RMEF banquets.  However, they are close friends and neighbors to Dan and Judy Guy who are very active in the RMEF Twin Harbors Chapter.  Thanks to that relationship, Kim and Blain hosted several RMEF gatherings at their winery over the last few years.

On behalf of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, thank you to the entire Roberts family for your continued support of our mission to ensure the future of elk, other wildlife, their habitat and our hunting heritage.
